Q: What are the benefits of Greek Life?
Academics
Alpha E’s goal is to help each member develop to their greatest potential. We have a commitment to academic excellence, fellowship, and service.
Leadership and Personal Growth
Alpha E offers opportunities for members to contribute their special talents to the group, and to refine and focus leadership skills they will need in work and community life. Each semester, Alpha E holds elections where members can be nominated and voted in for various positions like President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, etc. These positions are vital in maintaining order in the organization and help provide a platform where members can learn the skills it takes to have a position of power in an organization.
Service
Encouraging the intellectual, leadership and ethical development of each member is vital. By promoting these ideals through educational opportunities and service projects, students have an opportunity to give back to the community.
Q: What is pledging all about?
A: Pledging Alpha E involves cultivating the new member with the basic knowledge necessary to understand the society’s history, founding, growth, leadership structure, and responsibility within the Greek community as a whole.
On a more personal level, the pledge program cultivates time management and personal development skills which become critical throughout college and beyond. In addition, emphasis is placed on the importance of responsibility to one’s self in terms of academic, fraternal and community obligations. Pledging is two weeks.
Q: Is there a financial obligation to be a member of Alpha E?
A: Yes! Active members must contribute “membership dues,” each semester. These dues are calculated each semester by the active body and are based on entire membership and household expenses expected during the semester. Members who are voted in to live in the Alpha Lambda Epsilon house also have rent to pay on top of semester dues.
